On October 5, 1918, he was reported missing in action. Of note, between the 4th and 7th of October, the 116th Battalion reported that little training could occur because of the observation of the enemy. In fact, on October 3rd the Battalion reported that it was impossible to bring the horse or lorry transport forward as they were under direct observation from two towers in Cambrai and any activity resulted in prompt shelling. Between the 4th and 7th the Battalion noted that there was heavy bombing at night in the vicinity of one of the lines.

Norman in fact, was taken prisoner, died November 9th, 1918 at Cabrian-Mons, in Germany, buried in Canadian Military Cemetery, Kassel, Germany.

It would appear from the note below that Norman suffered injuries before or during his capture resulting in the need for amputation.
